Strip it back & start again

I originally started this blog a few years ago. It was lovely to be able to swap/share stories, hints and tips with like minded folk.

Around 18 months ago I lost the impetus for blogging there was a lot going on in our lives and subsequently I dropped off the radar for a while. I wanted to start blogging again but couldn't quite decide how I wanted to take this forward. In the end I decided that the best thing to do was to strip it right back and start again.

So here we are a fresh start.

Almost 12 months ago we moved house. At the time I was spending a ridiculous amount of time  travelling to work and started to feel a little like a mole leaving in the dark and coming home in the dark.  At the same time our youngest had recently moved schools. He has a diagnosis of ASD and is in specialist provision, which are few and far between especially in rural areas. He was travelling (courtesy of his dad the chauffeur) 28 miles each way to school. We decided in January 2017 that it was the right time to leave our beloved cottage, there were many tears spilt I can tell you, but it was definitely the right decision to make.

During the summer months I had quite often driven up through the Vale of Belvoir as an alternative to the congested main routes.  It is such a beautiful area with it's castle up on the hill, and conveniently not too far from our sons school.

From here you can see right across to Nottingham and Lincolnshire

Now I think these are Common Buzzards. I could sit and watch these all day long, but I do get these mixed up with the Red Kites, I am no ornithologist.
D bought me a book for Christmas to help me identify the birds I see.

I know what these  are

this particular bit of woodland  has been renamed as Pheasant Wood by our son

As you can see even at this time of year its a gorgeous

We were lucky enough to find a house right on the doorstep of the Vale of Belvoir and now get to enjoy the stunning views, beautiful countryside and eclectic mix of wild life

and the sunrises and sunsets are just stunning
This is the view from my house at 6.30am this morning

So that's it I've bitten the bullet written my first blog post and may it be the first of many

Thank you for stopping by.

Back soon

  1. Hello Mitzi, first and foremost I wanted to thank you for your wonderfully empathetic post over on my page. You are very kind to take some time out to let me know of your own personal experience with loss, and I can tell you it's very much appreciated. Welcome back to blog land btw, it's good to have a break and come back with a bit of renewed enthusiasm. I confess I didn't know there was such a place as the Vale of Belvoir in the UK! Sounds quite posh doesn't it?! What a wonderful place, and I'm sure the sadness of leaving your beloved cottage has been replaced with joy for being in such a beautiful spot!! Enjoy those sunrises and sunsets, they are definitely spectacular. Sharron

    1. Thank you Sharron and you are very welcome. The Vale of Belvoir is absolutely beautiful but we are definitely the poor relation that sits on the very edge. We've been here almost a year now and apart from my crafting things which I made sure were in my car alongside the kettle I'm still unearthing things in boxes. I will probably just about found everything when D will utter those words 'How do you feel about moving'. He's much more of a nomad than I. Up until we met nearly 20 years ago I had lived in the same house for 20 years and I can't say I enjoy all the upheaval of moving although I do like to nosy around houses:-)

  2. Hello Mitzi, it's lovely to see you back again. I took a bit of a break from blogging myself (only 1 post last year), but suddenly found I missed it and was pleased to see there are still plenty of people blogging, with some of my favourites among them. I'm glad you're enjoying the beautiful countryside in which you now live and hope it makes up for having to leave your lovely cottage. Enjoy the rest of your week. Jxx

    1. Hi Jane
Thank you for leaving a comment. I did wonder if I had left it too long and had been forgotten so nice to see a couple of comments left here today.

  3. Lovely to see you blogging again. I'm sorry that you had to leave your beloved cottage, I know how happy you were there, but it looks as though you've found a beautiful part of the country to put down roots. You don't mention your lovely doggies in your post, I hope they're all doing well. Archie now has a heart murmur which has got worse since it was first diagnosed, the worry of all Cavalier owners. I hope your youngest is finding life easier without the long journey to school and back, it should give him so much more time now. The easiest way to recognise red kites is by the fork in their tail.

    1. Yes the boys are all still doing well. Monty (Blenheim) is 10 now and apart from being 80-90% deaf still thinks he's a 2 year old. There will be lots of posts about them I'm sure. Two of them have a heart murmur but not had to go on any medication yet. I'm loving seeing all the new birds coming to the garden. We get much more here than we did at the Willows because it's so open where we are now and surrounded by fields and woodlands. We've even had a kestrel in the garden that comes mainly to the bird bath. Seeing your socks I may have to cast another pair on before too long but at least I can take a leaf out of your book and be early for the sock line.

    1. Thank you Lisa. Pretty it is but today it's just one big blanket of snow again. I'm sure I will discover lots of changes in the lives of those in blogland, including in your own with one of your chicks flying the nest.

  5. That used to be one heck of a school run; I can see why you decided to move! It must have been a very difficult decision, but it looks as if you've moved to a fabulous area. I look forward to seeing more of your posts. xx

    1. Thank you it is beautiful but today we're covered in snow again which means you don't get to go very far. I'm looking forward to showing everyone our new surroundings when its not a vision of white.
