Jar Toppers

There's nothing nicer than finishing off your jams & chutney's than having a nice jar topper on the top. They always remind me of nativity plays when I was a child when the shepherds all had to wear a tea towel on their head. That and a doll my daughter had when she was little that had a mop cap on her head.

They are so easy to make even I can do it .

All you need is your chosen fabric, a pencil or tailors chalk, something to draw around as a template and a pair of pinking shears. If you don't have pinking shears scissors will do just as well. I prefer to use pinking shears as I can't cut straight even in a circle if that makes sense and pinking shears gives it a nice picot edging.

Depending on the size of the jar top  you want enough fabric around the top to give it a nice skirt when pulled in with the elastic band. I  use the inner circle of a 5" or 13cm  embroidery hoop
I place my fabric on a flat, clean & dry surface and place my template
and using a pencil or tailors chalk I lightly mark out where I want my cut to be

and using the pinking shears or scissors I cut carefully around the marked out area

You can easily make these out of any scraps of fabric you may have from previous projects.
These were made from fat quarters that were being away free at a craft show and fortunately for me just so happen to be Christmas themed and could go on my chutneys that I was making as gifts.
