I'm not entirely sure what type of pastry this is exactly I just know its the pastry my mother made when she was going to make a savory pie either to line a pastry dish and or top a pie. Its quick, its easy and most of all it crumbles in your mouth and tastes delicious.
From your stores cupboard you will need
350g/10oz of plain flour
A pinch of salt
115g/4oz butter
50g/2oz vegetable fat (my mother would of used lard)
6-7 tablespoons of chilled cold water
- Sift the flour and salt into a bowl.
- Add the butter and vegetable fat and rub together, or buy one of these nifty little gadgets which combines it together for you, until it resembles fine breadcrumbs.
- Add the chilled water and bring together to form a soft dough
- Wrap in cling film and chill in the fridge for 30 minutes or until needed.
