The humble OXO cube used by millions of us to add flavour to stocks and gravy.
I have been using these little cubes since forever but what I never knew is that they had a little secret.
By pulling back the little flaps
and placing your thumb on the top and applying a little pressure
it squashes down flat
and becomes a small foil bag containing your stock powder
already for you to snip the top of the bag and sprinkle into stock or gravy or directly into whatever you are cooking.
I have to confess it took me forty years to discover this secret but I'm so glad I did. No more peeling back the foil and squashing the cubes in my hand.
Funny what you learn even years after years of cooking.
